Enlight Education Leads the Way in STEM Accessibility for Underserved Youth: A Transformative Journey Spread to Hyderabad

The school Enlight Education volunteered at this week was the Zphs School Madhapur Mandal. During this visit, Enlight Education's CFO, Yashashree Surineni, and a team of dedicated volunteers spent four hours teaching 80 fourteen-year-old boys and girls the basics of computers, various Microsoft applications, and how to use these programs effectively with the computers Enlight Education provided. Additionally, the students were introduced to the fundamentals of the programming language Java, sparking their interest in coding and technology.

The focus shifted to introducing different programming languages, and at this school, the volunteers and CFO focused mainly on Java. The practical, hands-on approach allowed students to practice these skills in real time, fostering a deeper understanding and confidence in using these tools.

The session's highlight was introducing Java programming and its basic concepts and activities. Volunteers provided a brief history of the language and its applications in web development, followed by a simple coding exercise. Students were introduced to basic code syntax and tasked with creating small interactive web elements. The excitement in the room was palpable as the boys saw their code come to life, igniting a passion for programming that many had never experienced before.

This summer, the second school Enlight Education volunteered at was the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) girls school in Narsingi (Ranga Reddy), Telangana. The staff at TSWREIS girls' school are all equipped with over three decades of experience; in addition, this school is the patronage of the Ministry of Social Welfare, in this school. Yashashree Surineni, alongside a team of committed volunteers, dedicated four and a half hours to teaching the basics of the Python programming language to 80 fourteen-year-old and fifteen-year-old girls. This effort, facilitated by Enlight Education's provision of computers, successfully ignited the girls' interest in coding and technology.

The third school Enlight Education volunteered at was the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) in Hyderabad, Telangana. The staff at TSWREIS are all equipped with over three decades of experience. This school is a patronage of the Ministry of Social Welfare, which has been improving education for the past 38 years in 268 institutions and catering to the needs of 150,000 students.

During this visit, Enlight Education's CFO, Yashashree Surineni, and a team of dedicated volunteers spent four hours teaching 180 7th and 8th-grade boys the basics of computers, various Microsoft applications, and how to use these programs effectively with the computers Enlight Education provided. Additionally, the students were introduced to the fundamentals of the programming language JavaScript, sparking their interest in coding and technology.

The session began with an introduction to the world of computers, covering essential topics such as hardware, software, and basic troubleshooting. The focus shifted to Microsoft applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The volunteers demonstrated how to create and format documents, use spreadsheets for data analysis, and design engaging presentations. The fourth school Enlight Education went to was Zilla Parishad High School. They did a two-day program taught by Yashashree Surineni and a set group of dedicated volunteers better to help the 150 fourteen-year-old and fifteen-year-old boys and girls. In this program, the first day was dedicated to teaching the students the basics of computers, including the main differences between computers and laptops, the evolution of computers, the evolution of programming languages, and how to use different Microsoft applications. On the second day, the program covered the popular programming language Python and how to program with it; after explaining the concepts all the students got to do Python programs and activities to enhance their understanding.
